Description
1969 Jeep CJ-5
In 1969 there was nothing that could match the prowess of a CJ-5 in the backcountry. Most Jeeps today have cute names and huge stickers. In 1969, a base CJ-5 listed for under $3,000.00 (plus top/doors) and was the foundation for all these fancy models. This CJ-5 Jeep has benefited from a full restoration in 2022. It is better-than-original condition and it is solid. The all-steel body was carefully refinished in low gloss 'Wool Gray' and is outstanding. A custom black steel top has been fitted with metal doors, roll-up windows and a two-piece tailgate - it is very cool. Accents include driver-side mirror, fender flares and Pro Comp steel wheels that mount new 32x11.50x15” BFGoodrich off-road radials. A heavy-duty hitch receiver has also been added. The interior has been totally restored – vinyl reupholstered front seats, upholstered rear side-seats, grab bar and factory gauge cluster. Solid floorpans have been spray coated with bedliner and rubber mats have been added. During this era, the CJ-5 used a variety of powertrains. Power for this CJ-5 is provided by a factory 225ci (3.7L) all-aluminum 'Dauntless' V-6 that was designed by GM's Buick division. These motors were a perfect option for the CJ-5 as they were lightweight and extremely powerful for their size - 160bhp/235lb-ft of torque. This 'Dauntless' has been completely rebuilt and sounds magnificent though a custom exhaust system. A Borg Warner T-86 3-speed manual transmission is mated with a Dana-18 2wd/4wd Hi/Lo transfer case w/manual front hubs. The '69 CJ-5 was equipped with a Dana-27 front axle and a Dana-44 rear. The spotless chassis retains a stock leaf spring suspension w/upgraded shocks, manual steering and manual 4-wheel drum brakes. A heavy-duty skid plate has been added to protect the transmission and transfer case. This ultra-classic CJ-5 has been carefully restored and it is ready to go.
