Description
1965 Shelby Cobra Roadster
Backdraft Racing has an excellent reputation in the replicar business, specializing in the Shelby Cobra. This beautiful 1965 Cobra 427 is a prime example of what a replicar should be. The car is complete in every way, but does have a few mechanical issues that should be addressed before it will be 'Best in Show'. The body was professionally finished in Cobra Guardsman Blue w/Wimbleton White accent stripes and is in very good condition. The black vinyl interior looks authentic right down to the 'backwards' Ford shifter. A full compliment of VDO gauges is perfectly positioned in the functional dash. Each bucket seat is equipped with a racing-style lap/shoulder harness. The owner states that the Ford engine is 427ci FE. It is fitted with dual Holley carbs and a header exhaust system that exits to menacing side pipes that leave no mistake that this motor is all business. The engine is said to have been rebuilt in 2021, but seems to have a misfire and is running rough. There are two issues that may need to be addressed for best performance. The Holley carburetors need attention (quite possibly causing the rough running condition) and the header exhaust system has a crack(s) that leaks exhaust. Cooling is managed by an aluminum radiator w/dual electric fans, but there is also a minor coolant leak. The FE is backed by a 4-speed manual gearbox and it is believed that the differential was donated by a BMW E46/M3. The chassis is fitted with manual steering, manual disc brakes and Halibrand-style 17” alloy wheels that mount Nitto performance radials. The current owner of this handsome Cobra and is now ready to pass it on to the next caretaker. If you want a 427 Cobra that needs just a little work to be very right, this is your Cobra.
